Mission & History
MISSION STATEMENT:
“Provide a place, the means, and the knowledge for youth to learn and refine the skill and art of sailing in a safe, controlled and fun environment”
HISTORY OF COMMUNITY SAILING OF COLORADO:
Community Sailing of Colorado, or CSC as it is popularly referred to, was established in 1995 on Standley Lake in Westminster, Colorado. The organization was developed by Steven Frank, who recognized the need for a well organized program to promote and educate kids in the greater Denver area through sailing.
Community Sailing of Colorado operates a summer sailing program and camp for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 17. CSC hosts weeklong and two week Learn To Sail Camps, Intermediate Camps, Advanced Camps, Adult Classes and a Summer Drop-In Sailing Program that allows access to sailing after they learn how to sail. CSC’s summer sailing program operates Monday through Friday during the months of June, July and August. Camps are conducted on the Cherry Creek Reservoir in Greenwood Village, Colorado. Youngsters learn basic sailing on Optimists, Prams and Pico’s. Youngsters earn advanced sailing privileges as they earn ratings. With each successive rating Junior sailors
can progressively earn the privilege to sail more complex boats, learn racing, sail further from the sailing beaches and help teach others to sail.
CSC has taught over 5,200 students since its inception with 35 students receiving scholarships to participate in the various sailing programs in 2010-2011. In addition, CSC has hosted over 400 children on special needs days which provided a tremendous opportunity to get children with disabilities on the water. We are also excited about launching our Adaptive Sailing Program for all individuals with disabilities in our community.
